adventures in potty training...

So we're not really completely serious about this potty training thing yet. And I'm totally okay with that. I know she's still pretty young, so we're in no hurry. Just testing the waters is all. She's gone number two twice now, which makes me oh so proud; but still, I don't think she's really grasping the concept.

All she really wants to do is sit and play with the toilet paper...

or exert strenuous grunting sounds coupled with arduous facial expressions...

or hop off to do some exploring...

or leave the bathroom altogether...

or strut around the house in momma's shoes...

(Please don't exploit my buns, mom.)

Last night John and I were trying to get her to go potty by bribing her with a cookie. She would sit on the pot, grunt, and then stand up, walk into the hall, squat down, and pee...right there on the carpet. I repremanded her and plopped her back on her little seat, after which she stood up, walked into the hall, squated and once again...drizzled on the carpet.

Suffice it to say, she's totally not ready. But that's ok. We'll keep testing those "waters" from time to time, and see if one day she doesn't stop "messing" around...and actually get down to business.

  1. That is so funny! Bennett always wants to "go potty" which to him means sit on the potty and mess with the toilet paper. Needless to say, we don't let him use the potty all that often anymore.

  4. I love her buns. They do remind me of Charlie's buns. I am proud of her for at least going in the toilet a couple of times. George won't even admit it when he poops he always tells me, "no, mom, gas."

  5. So funny she peed in the hall! I agree that it's not a big deal. As long as they eventually learn, I don't think it's important when. And really, I think diapers are pretty convenient, except for the cost. We got a potty for Gretta that has a censor that plays music when something hits it, hopefully encouraging them to go potty and get the song as a reward. Well, she just figured out how to trip the censor with her foot, or push the manual button underneath the potty, so we'll find her in there just having a dance party, but no potty party.

  6. Seriously Nicole, these pics are adorable, what are you talking about getting tips from me?! Still though, thats pretty impressive how she went number two on the potty all by herself. That's what most kids have the biggest problem with when it comes to potty training. She is so precious!

  7. Those pictures are just too, too cute for words. I'm sure it wasn't fun having to clean up pee out of the carpet, but how can you not just melt at such a sweet little face (and cutie little tooshie).

She may be completely ready yet, but the sheer fact that she's trying really is so awesome. She's not even two yet, and she's already making attempts to be potty trained. Wow! Go Ruby!

  11. That is truly hilarious! Could that little girl be any cuter? Could she have a cute style? No way, not with a stylish mommy! She always is dressed to the T....love it. And, I LOVE the little naked baby-butt....so classic.

  12. Hey Nicole, those are just about the cutest pictures I have ever seen! She is so cute! I'm with you though, don't stress about the potty thing! I tried to potty train Kirk when he was just barely 2 and I learned my lesson! They just do it on their own time. It's fun to see how they react to the whole thing though and the flushing is definatley a highlight! I'm so excited about Amber, do you know if your ward is going to bring in meals? Talk to you soon!

  13. She is just too cute! Let me just tell you that I think girls are way easier than boys! I have been potty training Zack way too long. I think girls pick it up just a little faster! Good luck :)
